Talking to Your Teen
Most parents feel like theyīre in a different time zone than their teens. Being fairly new to adulthood I can tell you the easiest way to talk to them is to speak to them like adults not children. I know thatīs hard but it eliminates a big part of the problem which is causing that communication gap.

Encourage Your Child to Read!
Reading to your child is an undisputed important link to learning and future success in school. Ensure that you set aside time each day to read to your children, and approach it as an enjoyable activity, not a chore. Reread the same book as often as children wish, it is how they start to recognize words.

If you stick to the smaller stores, the prices are often as good or cheaper, and you arenīt as likely to buy things you donīt need, like clothing, yummy looking gourmet food or huge quantities of items that you end up throwing away.

Too Much Sugar
A recent study by the USDA found that preschoolers eat an average of 15 tsp. of added sweeteners a day. That is 6 tsp. too much! This can lead to cavities, obesity, and heart disease. It can also cut a childīs appetite for healthier foods. To cut down on sugar intake, limit juice intake, and replace sugary treats with fruits or homemade less-sugary treats.

Keep Birthday Parties Under Control
In order to keep birthday parties manageable, try limiting the number of guests to the age of the birthday child. For example, a six year-old can have six guests. This keeps things more controllable, and kids look forward to getting older and having more guests.

Badmouthing Your Ex
When you and your spouse divorce donīt badmouth your spouse, or anyone else in either family. Hold children to this rule as well. Children will not love you more if you attempt to make your spouse the bad guy in their eyes. This only makes it difficult for them, and at some point they will more than likely resent you for your attacks. Children need to feel it is okay to love both parents without making anyone unhappy.
